A few studs for the ladies in Jamaica

More photos coming out of Hedonism II in Negril Jamaica, this time, it's studly men.  Man Of Steel Magazine hosts several photo shoots and contests at our favorite resort, Hedo II.  Maybe if I keep hitting the gym, de-age about 10 years and watch my diet I can become a man of steel too!

The next event for the guys is this December 4th to the 11th, 2011.  In the meantime, check out Man Of Steel Magazine for more photos.

Favorite foods at Hedo II

My friends over at DennyP's message boards are chatting about their fav foods while staying at Hedonism II in Jamaica.  Part of the pleasure of Hedo II is all the yummy food (and drinks) you can care to muster for the week.  And we're not talking bad food either, enjoy some of these favorites...

Lobster tails at night
Red Snapper
Ackee & Saltwater fish for Breakfast
Jerk Pork
Prude side french fries
4pm Jerk Chicken
Curry Goat
Fresh mangoes and papaya
Omelets in the morning
&
Beef Patties by the pool

This is all in addition to the many buffets that they offer.  It's now wonder people come back from a trip to Hedo II weighting a few more pounds.  :-)   I wanna go back home to Hedo!!!

Here's a cool travel product

If you're a gadget junkie like me it means that when we go traveling you also have a small array of electronics to take with you.  The Load Ding device organizer by XXD is just the thing to add a little organization while charging on the go.

This simple piece of white plastic is flocked with black, red, or pink on the inside and folds up to form a little tray to hold your electronics as they charge.  When not in use it packs flat and takes up hardly any space at all.  Just perfect for an adventure on the road.

A couple saw man jump from Carnival ship near Cozumel

A 39 year old married man was on a cruise near Cozumel when he was seen jumping into the ocean from the top deck of a Carnival cruise ship on Friday the 23rd.    The cruise ship hung out for a bit before a bunch of other boats started searching and Mexican officials took over.   The man jumped around 6:30pm in the evening.  Unfortunately, it's not that uncommon for people to commit suicide via jumping off a cruise ship.

(the man either jumped or fell from a Carnival ship like this)

All the passengers got a letter explaining the situation before the ship continued on it's 7 night cruise.   The ship captain, Antonio Sammartano, wrote to the other ship guests:  "We're sorry to say that at this time, the missing guest has not been located.  However, the Mexican navy remains on site and continues with the search," he wrote, "We continue to provide support to his family and friends during this difficult time. We ask that you please continue to join us in keeping them in your thoughts and prayers."

Disabled peeps can now dive at Sandals & Beaches in Jamaica

One of the really cool things about the all-inclusive resorts in Jamaica is the fact that at most, you can dive for "free" since it's part of the package price you paid.  But in the past, not all could accommodate persons with disabilities.   But now things have changed for the better and such folks can learn to dive at Sandals and Beaches Resorts in Jamaica!

Scuba instructors that work these resorts in Ocho Rios, Montego Bay and Negril have recently become certified at seminars conducted by the Handicap Scuba Association (HSA) from the United States of America.

Could this now result in an increase in visitors to the island?  With Jamaica now tapping a previously untapped market for tourism as a large number of disabled persons were interested in diving, but weren't able to do so till now.   I think it's a great thing, everyone should get the chance to dive the warm waters of Jamaica.

Topless beach babe

Imagine if you're walking along Haulover Beach in Florida when you see this hot babe.   In the fall at Haulover the crowds dip some but on the weekdays you'll still see moderate crowds and the weekends get busy.  Busy can mean up to 7,000 people on this nearly 1/2 mile beach.

* click to enlarge

Haulover is Florida's only legal nude beach and it's open up all year thanks to the sub-tropical weather Florida offers.   Read more on Haulover Beach at:  www.hauloverbeach.org.  Check out the beach on Google Maps.

Ain't no real thing like the I-Pad

So I was shopping in Downtown Los Angeles this week at our local Big Lots when I ran across an "I-Pad-wanna-be" device.  It was on sale for $149 down from $199.  Well, for the last few months I've been jonesing for the new I-Pad 2 but I'm too cheap to go out and buy it.  So I picked up this device, the NextBook 7 with Android.

But I had a 20% discount coming my way so I decided, on a whim, to pick this tablet up and take it home.  I was out the door for $130 including the tax.   Given the fact that the new I-Pads run $499 and up ($550 with tax) I figured it was a deal.   Hey, it said I could web surf, listen to tunes, read books and view photos.

I got it home and...errr...it's not that cool.  It took 3-4 mins to hook up to WiFi then when it did it creeped along at super slow speeds.   The screen itself was nice and it was pretty easy to navigate BUT if you can't zip along on the 'net, what's the point?   It did have a nice e-reader that even came along with 25 free (mostly older) books that could have come in handy in travels.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the best, I'd rate this a 6.  For the price, maybe it's worth it to some.

But at the end of the day, I took it back.  And I'm a anti-returner, I hate to return products.  I'll just wait till I get the stones to get the "real thing" an I-Pad.

Cocoa Beach Florida is going wild

Down on Florida's southern tip Cocoa Beach has been having problems.  The beach is the areas busiest tourist beach and it's fighting a battle of weather is should allow the tourists (and locals) drink on the beach or not.

On sunny weekends, what looks like a traveling carnival tends to appear on the water's edge as out-of-towners, typically younger than 30, set up tents, "beer pong" tables and other game items on the  2 block stretch along the Minuteman Causeway.

(go easy kids - a beach party at Cocoa Beach)

On most of those weekends the cops are called out 4-5 times to break up fights, arrest the drunks and to keep the over all peace.

So now city officials have to balance out keeping the peace down on the beach while still allowing tourists in town for that all-mighty dollar.   One idea is to allow beachfront hotels to serve food and alcohol to patrons on the sand bordering their property.  This way, the hotels would assume responsibility for management and maintenance.

Nothing like a little beach drama!

SuperClubs Pay For 14 Nights - Get 3 Free Nights at Hedonism II

SuperClubs has extended their book 14 days then get 3 free days program for 2011 & 2012 at Hedonism II!  We've used this program a few times in the past, and it's pretty cool.  One thing you can do is book (1) 7 night trip then book another 7 nighter but with the 3 free days, you get a nice 10 day trip!

One year we booked for May for the first 7 night vacation then again in October where we got our 3 free nights for a long ass 10 night vacation.   Just make sure you book all 14 nights in the same year, otherwise it won't work!
  • For every 14 paid nights in 2011, 3 free nights can be taken in 2011. The same for 2012.
  • Cannot be combined with other free nights (such as resort awards or free night letters)
  • Paid nights for single rooms earn free nights for only one person
  • Free nights cannot be carried over to the next year and must be taken by mid December
  • Based on room availability
  • The above conditions are subject to change.

I don't normally endorse any particular travel agency but in this case I learned about the sale from Denny P's website, so he gets the plug.  Click here to request a price quote Denny P's site.

Grocery shopping on the island of Roatan

If you follow my blog you know that I love Roatan, that small tropical island just off the coast of Honduras in the warm waters of the Caribbean.  Now, I've only been there once but I have plans on getting back and possibly opening up a resort on the island.   Something between Hedo II in Jamaica and the current scuba resorts that are currently on the island.

Anyway...

A lot of Americans are now living on the island of 30,000 residents.  And while we all like to say "when in Rome" it's also nice to say, I'll take some ground beef, potato chips and ice cream.  The island has a host of fruit and veggie trucks available but now the local markets are starting to get hip to some American foods.

(inside Eldon's Market at intersection of the main road & French Harbour)
(Eldon's has a good selection of food & products from the US such as the Kirkland brand)

There are plenty of options for grocery shopping on Roatan, all with a Roatan twist!   When you enter a grocery store, it looks typical North American: shopping carts, brightly lit aisles and sections: dry goods, produce, dairy, and freezer section, even a bakery and deli counter.  However, weather, and other factors, will dictate how well stocked the shelves are.

And most of the markets don't have weekly ads, accept coupons and other such "American" traits.   But they're reportedly very good about keeping non-expired items off the shelves and will discount food items that are close in expiration.   And the American conectp of reducing plastic bags has yet to catch on.  But you can bring your own bags and maybe a new 'earth-friendly' trend will catch on.

Jimmy Buffet inspires new casino in Vegas

This coming October 1st, 2011, a new casino is set to open in Vegas.  The Margaritaville Casino at the Flamingo will be a 15,000 square feet casino inside of the Flamingo which already holds Buffet's Margaritaville restaurant.  The renovation is giving this chuck of Flamingo Casino a Buffet style of look including indoor palm trees and tropical colors.

The Casino, located next to the restaurant, will offer 22 gaming tables, 220 slot machines and a 5 O'Clock Somewhere Bar...all directly accessible from the sidewalk on the famous Las Vegas Strip.

(Margaritaville has a volcano that erupts periodically during the eventing)

To celebrate the new casino the folks over at the Flamingo are going to mix up 2,000 gallons of tequila and make the world's largest margarita!   The 8,500 gallon beverage will be witnessed by Guinness World Records officials on October 11th, 2011.   Swing on by and grab yourself a Margarita and celebrate!

LoveVoodo.com makes a video at Hedo II

Here's a clip that's all parts equal fun, sexy and confusing.  It looks like an entire vacation at Hedo II booked all within a 1:43 clip.  It's a promotion video for LoveVoodo which is some type of hook-up site, vacation destination group.  Sounds like cup of tea!

Rihanna's bikini body in Brazil

Rihanna has settled into her Loud tour destination of Rio de Janeiro this week.  The Barbadian singer, and bad girl, tossed on a bikini and hit the beaches with her entourage while proceeding to sip on Caipirinhas, munch on coconut ice cream and build sandcastles.

Later on during the day (September 19), Rihanna purchased a few new bikinis then went and got herself a henna tattoo.  Later on she was immediately recognized by all of the locals and had to scurry off the beach and run to her hotel across the street.

She then took to her twitter account tweeting, "BRAZIL has the BEST coconuts!!! And AZZ!!!"

Her tour dates are Friday September 23rd and Saturday September 24th in Rio de Janerio as a part of "Rock in Rio 2011."

(Gainesville's Super 8 Motel)

Customers must be a member of its loyalty program and can participate in the promotion up to three times, for a total of $60.  The promotion ends on Nov. 18.

Local Hollywood residents irked at tourists

There are 2 ways to see the famed Hollywood sign:  #1.  Hike right up the hill from the nearest street at the bottom of the hill, a residential neighborhood, and get to hiking.   #2.  Hike up from behind over near Griffith Park, but that's a long ass hike.

99% of tourists take that fist option and it's really starting to tick off the residents in the neighborhoods just below the sign.  Google Maps/Earth have made it much easier to navigate your way up to the top.  Check out the below map...

(aim your car's GPS at the 3300 block of Deronda Drive - Zip: 90068)

But imagine you paid millions for a house and now the street out in front of it has turned into a parking lot for rental cars!   So latley local residents have been trying to get the city to help out, but it's public streets and that's the issue.
If you still want to do it then go north off Beachwood from Franklin to get this iconic landmark.  There's a trail that leads to the back of the sign, which gets you really close.   Just remember that there are cameras, motion detectors and helicopters which protect the sign.  And now angry residents!   Enter at your own risk!

Get into National Parks for free Sept 24th

Free is always the best price!  And this Saturday Yosemite National Park, and 100 others, are free to enter in honor of of National Public Lands Day.   The purpose of National Public Lands Day is to encourage people to come to the parks and help pick up litter and do various projects.  Officials hope to get the equivalent of $15,000,000 in improvements from the event.  They better let you in free if they're getting that type of help!

(even the Grand Canyon is FREE)

I did a search on their website and it said I could volunteer (if wanted) at Angeles National Forest by working:  "Half day of trail maintenance, removing litter and other needed improvements."  This was the park nearest to us that we could help out at.   But keep in mind, it's not required that you help, the parks are free to get in either way.

National park entrance fees will also be waived Veteran's Day weekend, Nov. 11-13, but reservation, camping and concession fees and other charges collected by third parties, including some tour fees, remain in effect.

Breezes is having a sale

Check out this sweet deal that I found on the Superclubs website.  A friend of mine at my office was asking about "these resorts" that I always talk about.  Well, come to find out he wants to travel around his anniversary which is in December.

That's a perfect time to go!  We did some checking and he can book 7 nights in Negril's Breezes and it would be around $1,414 for the 7 nights, for 2 people.  ($101 x's 2= $202 x's 7=$1,414).  Add in airfare from Los Angeles to MoBay and back and that's another $1,400.  Boom...for under 3k he's chilling on a beach for a week with all food and drink he can bare to handle.

Check them out further at:  www.breezes.com/specials.

Norwegian Cruises return to Jamacia

Six years ago Norwegian Cruise Line sailed away from Jamaica, and now, they're back!   Two of Norwegian's ships, Norwegian Pearl and Norwegian Sun, have plans in 2011 and 2012 to visit Ocho Rios.   If all goes well, they might just make Jamaica a permanent port once again.

I hope the port visits go well, it'd be nice to more cruise guests getting the opportunity to check out my favorite island, Jamaica.  Cruise visits to Ocho Rios have dipped about 25% over the last 5-6 years so Norwegian revisiting is a great sign.  It may be time for Ocho Rios to update their port and pier to lure even more visitors over.  Some reports have the port at Ocho Rios being "shabby."  And now there's Port Falmouth around the corner to compete for cruise ship traffic.

Let's see how this all pans out!

New bus routes to Hedo II from Kingston

When you book a trip at Hedonism II in Negril, Jamaica most people fly into Montego Bay aka, "MoBay."  From there SuperClubs offer FREE shuttle rides from the airport to the resort and they're not bad.  It's a nice way to see the island on the 48 mile trip.   The trip takes about an hour and a half and usually makes a pit stop at a local market where you can buy drinks/snacks and relive yourself.  :-D

(77.1KM or just under 48 miles from MoBay to Hedo II)

(242.1KM or just under 150 miles from Kingston to Hedo II)

BUT some people fly into Kingston's Airport, Norman Manley International, and now there's a new service that will take you from Kingston to Negril, in a more conformable looking bus for $2,200JA per person, one way.   $2,200JA at press time is around $25US.  It's a much longer trip at 150 miles and can take nearly 4 hours to arrive.   SuperClubs, as near as I can tell, doesn't offer any shuttle service from Kingston to Negril, so taking these newer looking buses are the way to go.

The only other option is to take a "puddle hopper" plane from Kinston (like you can at MoBay) and this will save uber amounts of time but the flight runs about $175US per person, one way.   If you wanna research the flight choices go to TimAir's webiste, www.timair.net.

So if you're asking me to suggest anything I'd say this...fly into MoBay and take the FREE bus from there to the resort.  It's a nice trip where you get to see the countryside, ocean views and the "real" Jamaica.  The complimentary SuperClubs vans/buses aren't bad and it's a great way to meet people who are going to area resorts.

But if you were in Kingston for some reason...these other buses seem like a nice option if you're down to take 1/2 day to see the island and save some money.   But I'd honestly rather spend more time at the resort and less time on a bus.  But hey, at least you have this choice.

RESPECT!

UPDATED:  According to Jamaica's Gleaner the bus route has "Amenities on board, in-ride entertainment, daily newspaper, bottled water, service of a hostess, choice of snack (biscuits or peanuts) and free WIFI internet service."

G-Strings "So soaking wet" Beach Party

If you're in Ocho Rios October 16th, 2011 you might want to attend this event, G-Strings "So soaking wet" Beach Party.   I wonder at these parties how many people are actual tourists or is it mostly locals?   I've posted some street party pics before from Jamaica and I'd say it's mostly local attendees.

Either way, it looks fun!   FYI - prices:  $2,500 (the most costly ticket) is $29.43 at the time of this post.  If you ever wanna check out the conversion rates between Jamaica and US dollars just Google "Jamaica dollar."

My question is this:  are the food and drinks included in the ticket price???

Google introduces a new airline shopping tool

Did you all see the stories out this week about Google's new airline shopping tool?  With the new technology Travelers can search for flights at www.google.com/flights and filter their flight queries by price, airlines and routes.   Also, it has a bar chart showing which travel dates are more expensive to fly!   Cool!

The new search method for flights has been expected after Google bought ITA software for $700 million earlier this year.  Google's new tool is a work in progress, it was reported that the WTC (World Trade Centers) were listed as airports, opps.   Google itself is not acting as a travel agent, instead, it directs customers to airlines' websites if they want to buy a ticket.

Check them out at: www.google.com/flights.

Penis size linked to finger measurements

According to Korean scientists, a man's penis size can be fairly and accurately judged by the length difference between an man's "pointy" finger and his "ring" finger.   Researchers at Gachon University in Incheon, South Korea looked at 144 willing Korean men.  All these men were in the hospital undergoing urological surgery for conditions unrelated to penis length.

Penis facts
  • The flaccid penis length is not necessarily associated with erect penis length.
  • Women do not require a long penis to experience sexual pleasure.
  • The average erect penis length is between 5.1 inches and 5.9 inches in length.
  • There are existing techniques to make your penis longer, but they can be quite painful.

The study found that average length between the second and fourth finger was 0.38 inches, and ranged from 0.35 to 0.44 inches, according to LiveScience. These measurements may be too small for the naked eye to notice, but when the researchers compared these finger lengths with penis size, they found the lower the digit ratio, the longer the penis was.

(yours truly)

So guys...hold up your right hand.  Are your index and ring fingers mismatched?   Congratulations, you're more likely than men with matching digits to have a long penis.  It all stems from the amount of prenatal hormone exposures you get while growing in your Mother's womb.

Random photos out of Hedonism II

It just amazes me just how many people love Hedo II in Negril, Jamaica.  I'm not the only sucker out there that loves to vacation there and gets a wicked case of D.I.F. when not there.

Always a good time at Hedo II!

New Orleans is cracking down on prostitution

Apparently, the "Big Easy" is getting a little too easy!   Concerned hotel managers in the French Quarter area of New Orleans contacted authorities in the area months ago over growing prostitution in their hotels.  The FBI and New Orleans police recently arrested 67 people, including guys, for solicitation.

(looking over the French Quarter)

Many of the ladies arrested were out of town women who would run ads in places like www.backpage.com and solicit guys while in town.  They'd book a room at a French Quarter hotel and meet the guys there.  More than one dozen officers were assigned to the area each night to make busts in an operation they named, "Project Heat."

The famous French Quarter is home to many popular hotels such as Omni, W Holiday Inn, Best Western, Hilton Garden Inn and Ramada among other historic boutique hotels.

2 cool places to get naked

Strip Poker World Championship - London, UK

London has turned your best, late night drinking game idea into reality.  Hot card hustlers gather annually to show off either their mastery of the game or their shamelessness in losing.  When this event began in 2006, contestants would wear 5 articles of clothing and strip them off as they lost hands. The rules recently changed and the tournament was moved into a famous strip club.  Now, contestants are provided with a complimentary stripper (some casinos give you free drinks, we think this is better) that takes her clothes off on their behalf.  Perhaps some returning poker champs were just not that pretty without their pants?  We’re guessing certain “distractions” can be used for bluffing tactics.

Hedonism II appoints new chef

From ,Dave Rodney, A Gleaner Writer

Last week Saturday morning, a few friends left Hedonism II in Negril for an early-morning fishing expedition. By early afternoon, the proud party of anglers was back at the resort boasting an impressive catch that included wahoo and mahimahi.  By dinner time at 7:30 p.m., the newly appointed executive chef, Joseph Kalynuik, had turned the day's catch into an epicurean fantasy and was serving up Wahoo Terrine stuffed with bell peppers, cream cheese, octopus, fresh garlic and basil.  This mouth-watering creation sent the taste buds to heaven as diners unhurriedly savoured the various textured layers and subtle flavours of this impromptu Caribbean delight.

(Chef Joseph Kalynuik)

Such is the culinary creative genius of Canada-born Kalynuik.  Having lived in Jamaica for over six years, he speaks with regular interjections of Jamaican Patois and he appears just as comfortable in the kitchen wearing his signature starched white chef's uniform as he is on main stage after the nightly show, welcoming guests to the resort and bigging up his treasured kitchen and dining room staff.

Fascinated by the dishes

The affable Kalynuik came to Jamaica after having worked with Holland America Cruise Lines for four years.  But his passion for cooking goes back to his childhood, growing up in Southern Ontario where he was fascinated by the dishes created by his grandmother Mary, who was an extraordinary Ukrainian cook.  By the time he was 14, he was assisting at a fine-dining resturant and he worked his way up until he gained recognition as a chef at the 5-diamond Casino Windsor in Canada.

Joseph Kalynuik is married to a beautiful Jamaican, Janice.  He loves everything Jamaican - '70s and '80s reggae, a good rum bar, great conversation and yes, jerk.  He has even created his own Chef Joseph's rum-infused jerk seasoning recipe.  By all accounts, Joseph's appointment as executive chef will certainly greatly enhance the already tasty treats that one finds at Hedonism II, Negril's lush garden of pleasure.

Take a cruise thru Downtown Los Angeles, in the 40's

Here's a way cool clip from the late 1940's of a car zipping along Downtown Los Angeles that was meant to be used as a background for an unknown film.  The 6 min long clip provides a wonderful glimpse of post-WWII Bunker Hill in Downtown LA plus it gives a nice peak into the silent film era of filming.

A lot of the area in this film has now been replaced with huge skyscrapers that make up our modern Los Angeles skyline.  A big renovation was started in the 50's that pushed the last of the old Victorian homes out of the area in favor of commercial development.

Recent improvements at Hedonism II

There's been a lot of improvements going on at Hedonism II in Negril, Jamaica lately.  Some speculate it's due to the upcoming 30th anniversary approaching and for sure that Superclubs CEO, John Issa, will be attending.  Also, a lot of travel agents will be in attendance.  Either way, it's nice to see the resort being attended to.

(the bridge being recently attended to)

A few of the improvements...
  • A new tile floor in Delroy's Nude Pool Bar
  • Two new and very effective ceiling fans in Delroy's Nude Pool Bar
  • Plans to redo the bar top and outside tiles on the beach side of the bar (scheduled for September)
  • One new "test" fan installed in the main dining which guests practically fought over to sit under.
  • Hedo grounds staff were tearing up the cement tiles in the courtyard between the casino, gift shop and piano bar one section at a time to level that area and they replaced the grass between the tiles.  Soon to be completed.
  • Repainting of the second floor nude side rooms near the nude volleyball court (same colors, fresh paint)
  • Four new jacuzzis in the nude jacuzzi rooms closest to Delroy's, but the other jacuzzis were not replaced
  • Better A/C in the disco
  • New exhaust fan installed over the grill at the buffet
  • Flambe station at dinner, located next to where the rolls and bread baskets are
  • Entire nude pool deck scheduled to be resurfaced
  • New and actually fluffy sand on the nude beach
  • Some brand new lounge chairs were being taken out of plastic wrap and placed in the misting pool between the nude pool and hot tub

Fares drop to $19 as low-cost carriers roll out fare sales

Yesterday 3 of the nation's largest low-fare airlines introduced their fare sales for the fall season.   Fare sales by Southwest and its subsidiary AirTran cover flights through early December while Frontier's sale extends into February.  Frontier's sale fares drop as low as $19 each way on some routes, such as Milwaukee-Kansas City and Denver-Kansas City.

Sales by Southwest & AirTran are nearly identical. The sales, which include one-way fares as low as $59 each way (plus taxes and fees) cover travel between Sept. 16 and Dec. 14.

(our personal favorite, Virgin America, didn't announce sales)

Tickets require a 10-day advance purchase and must be purchased by the end of the day Thursday (Sept. 8). The lowest fares are for flights on Tuesdays, Wednesday and Saturdays, though higher sale fares are available on other days. Travel is blacked out from Nov. 17 through Nov. 28.

As for Frontier, its sale tickets also must be purchased by the end of the day Thursday, though Frontier's sale covers flights through Feb. 15. Frontier's fares, which require a 14-day advance purchase, are lowest for Tuesday and Wednesday flights, though higher sale fares are available on other days.  There are several blackout dates around the Thanksgiving and winter holidays.

Frontier's sale fares focus on its hubs of Denver, Milwaukee and Kansas City: Sample one-way fares on Frontier (not including taxes and fees): Denver-Kansas City, $19; Kansas City-Milwaukee, $19; Denver-Phoenix, $49; and Milwaukee-New York LaGuardia, $79.
