Lightning Strike Injures Three on Florida Nude Beach

Wow'zers!  Talk about bad luck.  Here's a clip from a recently published story out of Miami...

"A lightning strike injured three people along a nude beach in South Florida Wednesday. According to the Miami Herald, lighting first touched the water at the beach around 4:15 p.m. on July 22 sending a wave of electricity that eletrocuted three men standing in ankle-deep water."

3 great US beaches

Summer is back!  So, let's explore 3 great beaches, right here in the US!

#1.  California

Orange County's Crystal Cove State Park  isn't just about the beach — gracefully curved coves with reliable waves for surfing and bodysurfing.  On the inland side of Pacific Coast Highway, park trails climb foothills for killer views of the ocean you just swam in.  If swimming and hiking make you hungry, grab a cheeseburger and a rich milkshake at Ruby's Shake Shack.

Check it out further: www.crystalcovestatepark.com

#2.  Florida

It was for good reason that Siesta Beach , just 15 minutes from downtown Sarasota, was chosen the nation's best beach in 2011 by Stephen Leatherman (aka Dr. Beach). Follow the gently sloping beach to the calm, warm Gulf waters and dig your toes into the powdery white-quartz sand. Lifeguards and free parking make it safe and easy for everyone to enjoy.

#3.  Hawaii

There aren't many long stretches of sandy shoreline in Kailua-Kona on the volcanic Big Island, so the 45-minute drive along the Kohala Coast to Hapuna Beach — the largest on the island — is worth the early wake-up. The beach is spacious enough to spread out. And if you still need more room, consider the clear waters, where you can snorkel and swim in calm conditions and body-board in the surf. Grab some snacks from KTA Superstore or a plate lunch from Pine Tree Cafe and make a day of it.

A babe on the beach with booty

Summer 2012 is almost here. But in places like Miami Beach, it's already on! Check out this pic of a babe on the beach somewhere in Miami.

She could be at Haulover, but she's not 100% naked. Not that you have to be nude at Haulover, just wishful thinking.

Boca Chica in the Florida Keys

Want to know a Keys insider tip?  There's an unofficial nude beach just outside of Key West.  Go to mile maker 10 on Highway 1 turn beside Circle K on SR 941, follow it to the end approximately 5 miles (8.0 km) and park. Walk beyond concrete barricade and you have a 4-mile (6.4 km) stretch all to yourself.

It's not a legal nude beach, nor is it a pristine beach.  But it's a place where locals sometimes sneak off to to strip down in the Florida sunshine.  Recent reports have the authorities still turning a blind eye, but if you do get approached, be smart and cover up.  It's also not a beach for sexuality, it's a raw beach for the nudist at heart.

Topless beach babe

Imagine if you're walking along Haulover Beach in Florida when you see this hot babe.   In the fall at Haulover the crowds dip some but on the weekdays you'll still see moderate crowds and the weekends get busy.  Busy can mean up to 7,000 people on this nearly 1/2 mile beach.

Haulover is Florida's only legal nude beach and it's open up all year thanks to the sub-tropical weather Florida offers.   Read more on Haulover Beach at:  www.hauloverbeach.org.  Check out the beach on Google Maps.

Cocoa Beach Florida is going wild

Down on Florida's southern tip Cocoa Beach has been having problems.  The beach is the areas busiest tourist beach and it's fighting a battle of weather is should allow the tourists (and locals) drink on the beach or not.

On sunny weekends, what looks like a traveling carnival tends to appear on the water's edge as out-of-towners, typically younger than 30, set up tents, "beer pong" tables and other game items on the  2 block stretch along the Minuteman Causeway.

(go easy kids - a beach party at Cocoa Beach)

On most of those weekends the cops are called out 4-5 times to break up fights, arrest the drunks and to keep the over all peace.

So now city officials have to balance out keeping the peace down on the beach while still allowing tourists in town for that all-mighty dollar.   One idea is to allow beachfront hotels to serve food and alcohol to patrons on the sand bordering their property.  This way, the hotels would assume responsibility for management and maintenance.

Nothing like a little beach drama!

An unofficial nude beach - Little Beach in Maui, Hawaii

If you're looking for a place to bare all in Hawaii then Little Beach on the souther tips of Maui is for you!  While nudity is not generally allowed on Hawaiian beaches, the courts have agreed to look the other way in the case of Little Beach, making it Maui's unofficial clothing-optional destination.  This beautiful strip of sand was a favorite of the hippie population during the 1960s and remains a popular destination for naturalists from all over the world.

Bonus videoBusty teen gets naughty at Little Beach.

The swimming and snorkeling are reported to be sensational at this popular sunbathing spot.  Plus people meet up every Sunday at sunset for the drum circle and fire dance.   However, Little Beach is inaccessible by car, so be prepared to park at Makena (otherwise known as Big Beach) and hoof it from there.  Google Map of Little Beach.  But here's a tip, car break-in's have been noted at the Big Beach parking lot, so be mindful of your valuables.

Check out the Friends of Little Beach for more info about Little Beach.

Halle Berry parties in Malibu

The amazing looking Halle Berry turned 45 recently and decided to celebrate it on the beach in Malibu.   Does this woman ever age?  She's looking tremendous!   Halle has a house in the area so she went down to the beach with her kid and friends.

I hope she didn't hop in the water, the Pacific in that area is 61 degrees at the time of this post.  Brrrrrrrrrr... Wait, women tend to look better cold, go jump in Halle!!!

Paradise Cove in Malibu

Next time you're in Malibu, California you might notice something...parking can be a challenge when busy.  Where to park?  The street if you can, often times the surfers got all the early parking.  Another option is Paradise Cove.  Located at 28128 Pacific Coast Hwy, Paradise Cove is a restaurant on the beach with a parking gimmick - park for $30 OR spend $25+ at the restaurant and parking is $3.

(Note:  the parking info above it for 4 hours)

Reviews of the food go both ways.  Some people enjoy the selection of seafood's and traditional American dishes (think burgers), others...don't like the food much.  I've been there a few times and it's about what you'd expect from a beach bar/restaurant IHMO.   You go to Paradise Cove for the beach, not 5 star dining.  Sample dishes include:  Clam Chowder, Iced Seafood Samplers, Grilled MahiMahi, Hickory Baby Back Ribs and more.

So for me Paradise Cove is a pretty cool spot that does a few things for you.  It gives you easy parking, a decent lunch and the best part...a great beach.  Check them out at: www.paradisecovemalibu.com.

7 mile beach in Negril migth be eroding away!

7 mile beach in Negril, Jamaica is famous for it's white sand, calm warm waters and the resorts that call this beach home.  It's also seemingly eroding away.   An article in the Jamaica Gleaner spotlights how quickly the sand on this famous beach is heading out into Bloody Bay.

When I was living on the beaches of Tampa Bay we used to have these problems.  Every 3-4 years they'd dredge up a bunch of sand from the gulf and spray it on the beaches restoring them and costing the taxpayers of Florida millions.   Now in Negril the same seems needed.   Officials in Jamaica are saying it'll cost about 25 million in US dollars to resort the beaches and they're hoping that cost will be picked up by a hotel room tax being collected by the Government.

(Negril contributed around 25% US$2 billion gross earnings of Jamaica)

It seems Negril beaches need about 30 meters of sand pumped in to restore the beaches to where they were back in the 1970's.   See, this is what happens to natural areas.  Prior to the 70's Negril was a pretty sleepy town.  With the boom of new resorts and visitors (like me) it's caused it's delicate balance from nature to be jeopardized.

Will the situation be resolved?   I'm sure it will.  Tourism dollars outweigh the cost of fixing the beaches.

Check out this airport where they land on the beach

There's just one airport in the entire world where your official runway is a beach, and it's Scotland's Barra Airport.   Check out their website that even "promises a unique landing experience."

As noted by AirFareWatchDog.com the facility is "the only one in the world where scheduled flights land on a beach.  When the windsock is flying, locals are advised to keep their distance from its three runways, which are marked by wooden poles.  High tides cover them, so flights must be scheduled accordingly.  For bonus chills and thrills, fly in at dusk, when just a few vehicles are used to illuminate the runway."

USA today puts out a story - Do you think women should go topless at the beach?

Nudity is the topic of conversation now in the mainstream media!  A recent poll showed that vacationers thought going topless was okay on beaches & pools where it's allowed.  The story, http://travel.usatoday.com/topless, showed that 78% of respondents think toplessness is OK in destinations where it's "culturally acceptable."

 Other things polled...

85% of survey respondents get irritated at people who hog beach chairs at resorts
60% of respondents would like to see child-free zones at beaches
28% say six feet is the closest acceptable distance to sit next to a stranger

La Chiappa France - a nude beach

The Caribbean and America ain't the only places in the world where people can go get naked on the beach.  Let's not forget about Europe where nudity is often times not a big deal like it is over on this side of the pond.  For example, if you find yourself in France and wanna skinny dip check out La Chiappa Beach right next to the Mediterranean Sea.

(this hottie was found at La Chiappa recently)

If you find yourself headed to Corsica (which is France's Island) you'll for sure want to check out La Chiappa.  It offers nude guests bungalows and a 2-mile stretch of  beach, nudists can bare it all while enjoying the warm Mediterranean waters, swimming pools and white sand.
