"I don't know where I'm a gonna go when the volcano blows!" Jimmy Buffett
So what happens when a volcano in Iceland decides to blow it's top? Airline traffic across the globe feels the affects. A lady in NYC trying to see her Father in Amsterdam has to wait. A Japanese traveler in the UK has to book another 4 days in their room in London and wait it out. The closures and flight cancellations could cost the airline industry more than $200 million per day in lost revenue, according to the International Air Transport Association!

The problem is that the plum of volcano ash contains partials that will clog up airplanes turbine engines causing gunk to accumulate and that leads to a loss of power. NOT GOOD! According to the good folks over at CNN CNN News Story they are saying there is "no end in sight". So if you have travel plans that involve Europe at all, or with any of your travel plans, check with your local trip planner or the news.

Personal experience with this one...my mother was in Uganda for business. Now, we warned her before she went...being a Jew and going to Uganda don't often mix. Let us know if you want us to call in the Mossad.
ReplyDeleteThen this thing blew. She got stuck there for a week. No need to call in the Mossad says she. I'm getting a mani/pedi while my colleague gets a massage.
One week and 20 hours later, via Amsterdam and Brussels she's back home. Mossad not needed after all but the fact remains...its tough to leave Uganda when you are a Jew.
