SPRING BREAK 2010!!!

Those wacky college kids are at it again.  Spring break hot spots of the past - Ft Lauderdale, Panama City and Mexico are giving way to the newest place to be on your spring break - Las Vegas!

Why you ask?  Well if you go to Mexico you might just wind up DEAD as the drug cartel there is going absolutely berserk.   And think about it....Vegas.  Cheap rooms, topless pools, plenty of sin, food and drinks.  Sounds like paradise to me.

According to Travelocity, Las Vegas is the third most popular spring break destination. Those findings are based on travel bookings through the Web site. The company is offering a spring promotion called "Viva Las Savings," in which travelers can lock in savings of as much as 40 percent over last year if they book Las Vegas vacations between now and March 21 for trips taken by May 31.

Tacos and Tequila, in Luxor, is offering the "Seis y Seis," six tacos and six beers for $29. They also are hosting human rooster fights in which customers don rubber chicken feet and masks and tape balloons to their ankles. They get into a ring and then try to break their opponent's balloons by stomping on them.  Fun fun!

What is Daggering? (a dance started in Jamaica)

So last year when me and my better half were sitting in Jamaica watch that nights show at the resort a young local couple got up on stage during a song and they started.....uhhh.....dancing?   We could not tell if they were dancing or dry humping to be honest but hey....after we had our 3 drinks who could really tell the difference anyway?

Anyway....watch this clip from Mr. Vegas real quick for a Daggering 101.

Did that really represent the real daggering found in Jamaican Dancehalls?  Well, not really.  Daggering is a hardcore style of dance that stimulates sex.  It's roots are founded deep within Jamaica's night clubs and has recently become more and more popular.  But it's not without it's dangers!  Local hospitals have reported men coming in with "broken penises" from the combination of sexual excitement and this very very dirty dance.

(one happy couple taking their daggering to the air)

Dancehall music became popular in Jamaica in the late 1970's and has become a world wide hit.  Popular dancehall artist today include Mavado, Mr. Vegas, Beenie Man and "queen" of dancehall Ladysaw.   Dancehall music has become the best beat for Daggering or as some people have called it, Dry humping on the Dance floor.  The new trend in the dance is getting all aerial on us.  Ladies flying from one mans eager lap to another.

For a more realistic look of how daggering looks like in the clubs of Jamaica check out this clip!

As for the young couple at the resort that opened our eyes up to this naughty little dance, thank you.  To the gentleman, I hope nothing broke.  :-D   Next time you're in Jamaica be on the look out for this dance and enjoy the show when you do find it.

I-Pad - the new travel computer?

Apple is coming out with the I-Pad this week and aside from it being a pretty cool computer, it also looks like it's going to be rather hand in travel!   In a nut shell the I-Pad is a big version of the I-Phone but it can do more, and less.  It's not a phone, but it also does more computer-wise.

I'm excited about this new gadget is that many believe it could eventually replace the laptop as the traveler's choice for on the go internet access.  As someone that flies often and lugs my laptop with me through airports worldwide, it would be great to slim down and have one of these bad boys with me when I travel.

Similarly to the iPhone (which I own and love), the iPad will include many great travel apps. From Lonely Planet's 1,000 Ultimate Experiences, which comes with a plethora of photos and travel destination information, to Google Maps, there are already more than enough travel geek goodies ready to download on the iPad.

This new computer will be priced at $499 and will go up from there.   It has a 9.7 inch touch screen and works off WiFi.  It weights just 1.5 pounds and it's super thin at just 1/2 inch thick.  It will use over 10,000 current apps from the App Store so go ahead and download your favorite travel apps.  Great Travel Apps.  Apple claims it'll last 10 hours on it's battery but users have been reporting cases of the I-Pad lasting 12 and 13 hours!

Erykah Badu's music video - right or wrong?

So maybe you've seen this video?   Dallas native Erykah Badu filmed this video in March of 2010, it was shot in one take by one man, with one camera.  Erykah get's out of a car and strips till she's 100% nude then pretends to get shot near where JFK was actually assassinated.

The question is, was it wrong for this Neo-Soul artist to disrobe in front of unsuspecting kids and fake a death in one of American's scared spots.  Erykah is hiding behind the excuse it was for art, and also to speak against the think group, GroupThink.  Or was it just another artist showing some skin for PR?

So weigh in with your comments. Was this a case of artistic charm or in bad taste? Or perhaps, both?

Unpaid Spanish air hostesses strip in protest!

Spanish Airlines "Air Comet" is having issues with their staff.   Reports have it that for some wacky reason Air Comet hasn't paid their stewardess in 9 months, so what's a woman to do?   Strip and sell the calenders to make some coin!  If you want to read all about it just go here, Air Comet girls get nude.  If you want the pics, just keep looking on...

"We are just demanding our rights to receive what is ours, we each have eight or nine months of unpaid salaries," attendant Adriana Ricardo, one of the cabin crew who appears in the calendar said in a news agency report.

Around 1,200 of the sassy calenders have already been sold on the internet for around 15 Euro (around $20.35 American).
Air Comet had tried and failed to create a niche in the market by offering cheap flights to South America, but dropping demand due to the recession caused the airline to collapse leaving hundreds of passengers stranded at various airports.

In such economic hard times, employees are often having to come up with more inventive and creative ways to make sure they get what is owed to them!  So what do YOU think?  Is this a savvy way of earning your back pay?

Or do you even care?  You were just here for the pics right?  Noooo problem!

Does tanning in a bed really help you before a vacation?

Most of us "lighter" people feel going to a tanning bed before heading to the tropics will help us with a few things.  1.  We'll look better!  and 2.  It might help us not to get as sunburned when we do arrive.

Is this true?

Well a tanning bed does get you tan.  But how?  By soaking your pasty skin in UV lights that mimic the suns natural UV rays.  It should be clearly noted that epidemiological studies have shown an increased chance of skin cancer from these wonderful UV rays, so do consider this.   If you do "pre-tan" before going experts have noted that it's like having a SPF 4 or less so really, it won't help you THAT much when you land in the tropics and lay around all day in that hot sun.   Cost are anywhere from $4 bucks to $35 bucks per session and you might need to go twice a week for 2-3 weeks to get that look you want.

Another solution?  You could always try out a "Mystic Tan" spray before going just to have that bronzed look but it will do NOTHING for protection in the sun.  Plus if you're in the pool a lot, it can wear off much quicker.   It will make you look tan in hours and there is no health risk associated with this method.  They say the tan will hold for 4-7 days but again, if you're in the pool a lot...  Costs are $20 and up depending on your area but you only have to go in once and you're done for the week.

Either way once you get to the beach please remember to use a high quality SPF.   There are a gazillion types of sunscreen to choose from but just remember to re-apply often when in the pool and/or sweating a lot.  Here's a link to different types, Google Shopping for Sunscreen.   Even if they claim to be "waterproof" you should still re-apply every few hours in that hot Caribbean sun.   Plus with the right partner, that can be kinda fun!  ;-)
