A storm blows in the Caribbean

An area of disturbed weather with a 40 percent chance of becoming a tropical cyclone may bring heavy rain and mudslides to Haiti and Jamaica this week said the U.S. National Hurricane Center.

The Meteorological Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for low-lying and flood prone areas of St Mary, Portland, St Thomas, St Catherine, Clarendon, Kingston and St Andrew all in Jamaica.

UPDATE:  Check in with the weather HERE.

Accompong Village Jamaica

Located deep in the hills of Jamaica lies a village that's over 260 years old, Accompong Village.  The village is a historical maroon village that was founded in 1739 after the Maroons signed a peace treaty with the British.  Today the inhabitants of Accompong share practices and a culture similar to their African culture originating 200-300 years ago.

(The village has about 500 residents)

But what makes Accompong unique is the fact that it's a semi-independent village where you'll find no taxes, no police and hardly any crime.  It is located in one of the two areas where runaway slaves settled, originally with the Tainos, isolated enough to be safe first from the Spanish and then later from the British.  The town of Accompong was named after the Maroon leader Accompong.

Getting there is somewhat of a task, you'll want to hire a local driver or cab to lift you there.  You can find cabs that'll cost you about $70 for the day.   Times to Accompong run 2 hours from Montego Bay.  2.5 hours from Negril and about 2.5 hours from Ocho Rios.

If you really wanna dive into the maroon experience you could book a room at Colonel Robbie’s guesthouse in town.  I can't find much on the place (no web site) but I think you can book a room from around $30 for one night.  You can try to reach them @ 876-337-0326.  If you arrive in January you can experience their annual Independence Festival which draws thousands of past and present Maroon descendants and visitors from around the world.

Looking back at Cassandra in Smooth Girl Magazine

Check out Cassandra "Cassie" Melinda in June of 2010's copy of Smooth Girl.  How this hottie got past me I have no idea, but none-the-less, here she is.  She's a 23 year old babe from Miami who's 5'6 and weights in at a healthy 155.   Cassie is mixed with Irish and Puerto Rican blood.

Sorry the pics aren't that great, but you can see more of this hottie at:  www.atlnightspots.com/cassiee-melinda.

Red Rooster in Vegas - A sex club review

The Red Rooster, I've heard of it for years but have never gone there.  In a nutshell it's a swingers/sex club at 6405 Greyhound Lane in Las Vegas, NV.  It sits on the far east side of town and it's been in operation since 1982.

One reviewer wrote, "Why spend hundreds of dollars bribing douchebag VIP hosts and currying favor with fickle tourist divas in the hopes of MAYBE scoring the proverbial happy ending?  The Red Rooster is a sure bet: people come here to party and to get laid, and don't bullshit about it.  It's a club without all the pretense and poseurs!

Run by a genial middle-aged couple out of their sprawling private residence, the Red Rooster is just plain folks, drinking and dancing and getting frisky.  Definitely not a room full of Barbies and hardbodies... but on the plus side, you won't be judged, ridiculed or taken advantage of.  People are welcoming and friendly, and you can definitely get some here, if your standards aren't impossibly high."

The Red Rooster is a BYOB party pad that has a pool, hot tub, private rooms and a dance floor.   It accepts "donations" only and for couples it's usually $30 bucks to attend.  For single dudes it's either $40 or $50 (higher on the weekends) and for single ladies just $10 and on Sunday nights, you get in free.

      Other perks
  • Couples Only Area
  • Pool Table
  • Big screen TV's
  • A resident DJ Thursday to Saturday
It seems lots of couples go not necessarily to swing but to just people watch and be naughty for one night while in Vegas.   People have noted the house itself is older but it's all part of the sexy charm.  Also, across the street happens to be a liquor store, bonus!

Rose Hall's Great House

Rose Hall, near Montego Bay, Jamaica is a former sugar plantation that was built from 1778 to 1790 by John Palmer, a wealthy British planter.  At its peak, it was a 6,521-acre plantation, with more than 2,000 slaves helping to produce sugar.

The Great House on the plantation is a Georgian mansion with a stone base and a plastered upper story, high on the hillside, with a panorama view over the coast.  It was restored (old photo) in the 1960's to its former splendor, with mahogany floors, interior windows and doorways, paneling and wooden ceilings.  It is decorated with silk wallpaper printed with palms and birds, ornamented with chandeliers and furnished with mostly European antiques.  There is a bar downstairs and a restaurant.

Hours:  Daily 9am-6pm. Last tour at 5:15pm.
Location:  9 miles east of Montego Bay.  Google Map
Prices:  $20 adults and $10 children 12 and under.  US Prices.

One of the big attractions to The Great House is the story of 4'11 Annie Palmer, a Haitian born woman who later moved to Jamaican and married the owner of Rose Hall, John Palmer.  John then later died suspiciously (along with two other husbands) and it is speculated that Annie herself brought about their demise. Annie became known as a mistress of voodo, using it to terrorize the plantation, and taking male slaves into her bed at night and often murdering them.

BONUS LINK:  See Annie Palmer.

She is also supposed to have killing her lovers allegedly because she was bored of them. The legend has her being murdered in her bed during the slave uprisings of the 1830's.  Now, the Great House has been used as a museum for tourists who wish to see where Annie Palmer ate, slept and also areas of the house where she is said to haunt.

She was buried directly behind the Great House in a tomb designed to keep her there for eternity.  A special voodoo ritual was designed and performed to ensure this would happen, but the legend says that the ritual was not fully completed, which allows the spirit of Annie to still walk the house and roam the plantation today.

Visitors to the Great House have seen Annie riding her horse at night on the plantation grounds looking for runaway slaves.  She has also been seen standing on her balcony, still watching over the plantation even in death.

Annie was even immortalized in the 1970’s by Johnny Cash in his song, the ‘Ballad of Annie Palmer.’
His words explored the possibility of a burial site amongst the Rose Hall estate when he asks:  “Where’s your husband, Annie, where’s number two and three? Are they sleeping neath the palms by the Caribbean Sea?”

(Annie Palmer's final resting place at Rose Hall)

And now Rose Hall is also known for holding seances to try and conjure her spirit and gain answers about the mysterious deaths of her husbands and fanciful legends of underground tunnels, bloodstains and hauntings that surround it.  There is little evidence to support the legend other than a version of which was written by H. G. de Lisser in his 1928 novel The White Witch of Rose Hall.

Read the book for yourself and next time you find yourself in MoBay, you might want to jog on over to Rose Hall for a tour.  Will you sense the evil of the past or is it all just in the heads of those who once called Rose Hall home?

White Witch of Rosehall

Another hot deal out of Negril, Jamaica

From now till the end of October 2011 you can book a "fan" room at Catcha Falling Star Gardens for just $49US for 2 people.  A fan room is a nice way of saying NO AC!  But if you're down for cooling off in the shower or the pool, then this place could be for you.   A nice bonus includes breakfast in that $49 price.  Google Map.

So do the math...a couple could stay there for 7 nights and the cost would only be $343 bucks.  True, you need to feed yourself lunch and dinner but it'd be pretty cool to take in a few local restaurants you might not get while staying at one of the big resorts.

What Catcha Falling Star Gardens is is a small hotel within a lovely garden setting located on the famous West End road of Nergril, Jamaica.  There is a popular restaurant across the road, which provides seaside dining and entrance to and from the ocean, and is the place where you can savor delicious dining and exotic thirst quenching tropical refreshments. Enjoy a free and easy atmosphere and sample your favorite cocktail.

So someone book a trip here and let me know, is it decent for the price?  Seems you can't go wrong...

(a couple of young Jamaican hotties enjoy a night at 'Bling! Nightclub')

A couple that came to the resort in December had this to say about life at the resort:  "We just got back from Jewel Dunn's River in Ocho Rios Jamaica.  The resort still looks like Sandals and the staff is overly anxious to serve you. We have been coming to Ocho for 10 years now and usually stay at Ciboney/Sandals and I have to say Jewel is better because of the people.  I noticed some other reviews that the food was below par in the restaurants but what I found it's resort food, not 5 star, so its fine.  However I came here to eat jerk chicken and its excellent.  Also, the pizza was good.  If you go find the bartender Garnet he's the best and go on a catamaran with Vidal.  Justin is the life of the party he always made sure we where having fun. Go have a hummingbird and relax this is a great place to be."
