Today is Independence Day in Jamaica! 49 years ago today Jamaica claimed it's independence from British colonial powers. On August 7th, 1962, the day after official independence, Princess Margaret of England opened the island's first session of Parliament on behalf of the Queen, completing the transfer of independence to Jamaica.
So congratulations Jamaicans on your 49th year of complete independence!
